Investigator in Residence Program

2026 ASCENT Investigator in Residence Program

About the Program

The Advancing the Science of Palliative Care Research Across the Lifespan (ASCENT) Consortium invites applications for its 2026 ASCENT Investigator in Residence Program. The goal of this program is to:

  • Increase the number of palliative care investigators.
  • Expand the range of institutions where palliative care research is performed.
  • Develop scientific and leadership capabilities leading to future successful grant proposals, both through ASCENT and extramurally.

Program Details

The ASCENT Investigator in Residence Program is ideal for early-stage investigators who are building a research career in palliative care focused on serious illness care across any phase of the lifespan. It offers career development and networking opportunities for one year for up to 10 people, with particular focus on investigators working at institutions or in regions with limited capacity for palliative care research or working within a discipline with comparatively fewer investigators in hospice and palliative care research.

ASCENT Investigators in Residence will:

  • Be assigned to an ASCENT Research Core and participate in Core activities, such as Core meetings and knowledge generation.
  • Be funded to attend the ASCENT Annual Scientific and Business Meeting from June 29-30, 2026, in Bethesda, Maryland.
  • Receive guidance in refining a current or future research project.
