The ASCENT Lab
The ASCENT Lab offers brief virtual consultations to help palliative care researchers refine their proposals. These 25-minute sessions provide a focused opportunity for investigators (and their mentors, if applicable) to confer directly with multidisciplinary ASCENT Research Core key personnel and specialized consultants. Each session is tailored to the investigator’s project, ensuring they receive actionable feedback to strengthen their work.
Please note: Accessing the ASCENT Lab does not confer any advantage during the ASCENT Pilot and Exploratory and Research Scholar application review process. ASCENT scientific reviewers will not know whether you used the consultation process, and you should not refer to consultation in your ASCENT grant application.

How It Works
1. Prepare for Your Consultation
To help the ASCENT consultants make the most of your time together, please have the following items ready before signing up for an ASCENT Lab:
- ORCID ID (you can create one for free by registering online)
- Specific Aims (draft is acceptable)
- 1-2 specific research questions prepared for requested consultation(s)
- Which Research Cores you’d like to meet with
Good research always begins with a strong methodological foundation. We recommend you begin by requesting a Design or Measurement methodology consultation prior to engaging with more specific ASCENT Core expertise, such as biostatistics, engagement, lived experience, etc.
2. Sign Up in Advance
Complete the form below to sign up for office hours with ASCENT Research Core faculty. Consultations are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. While consultations are scheduled based on consultant availability, we will do our best to accommodate all requests.
3. Confirm Your Appointment with Calendly
You will receive your individual consultation time in advance. An email with a Calendly scheduling link will be sent to you, allowing you to select your appointment time. Please note: These emails may occasionally be filtered into your junk folder. If you do not see the message in your inbox, please check your junk folder and mark it as “Not Junk” to help ensure future emails are delivered correctly.
4. Complete a Post-Consultation Survey
You will receive a survey after your individual consultation to let our team know if your questions have been answered and if you need additional consultation.
